Ethereum co-founder, Vitalik Buterin, has highlighted the role of subcultures in growing the Ethereum ecosystem via layer-2 blockchains. In a recent blog post, Buterin identified three subcultures: the hands-off "cypherpunks", the philanthropic "regens", and the profit-seeking "degens". He warned that attracting one audience could exclude others, but remained optimistic that "cultural pluralism" could balance these subcultures for the benefit of Ethereum. He also noted the emergence of cultural specialties on Ethereum's layer-2s, such as more women in leadership roles and the commitment to remain "simultaneously cypherpunk and user-friendly". 🚀
