Buterin tweeted “Rest in peace Kabochan” in response to a tweet from Kabosu's owner, Atsuko Sato (@kabosumama), announcing the dog's passing at the age of 19. Kabosu gained fame in 2010 when her photos went viral, inspiring the creation of Dogecoin in 2013 by Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer. Kabosu became the mascot for DOGE and gained further popularity within the expanding Dogecoin community.
