KABOSU passed away! The Japanese shiba inu dog, very famous for having inspired the Dogecoin cryptocurrency, died this Friday in Japan.
Atsuko Sato, his guardian, announced his death to the world this Friday. Its exact age is unknown, as Kabosu was adopted by Sato, the animal's age has never been confirmed. But her owner said she believed she was around 18 years old.
Kabosu became famous on the internet 14 years ago, when Sato published an image of the dog on her personal blog. From there the "Doge" meme came about because of his impressed features.
It was in 2013 that the dog inspired a "meme-coin", the Dogecoin cryptocurrency. Those responsible for its creation were Jackson Palmer and Billy Markus, who only intended to make a satire of cryptocurrencies, however, it was surprising.
The peak of the currency's appreciation occurred in 2021, when it became one of the most valued cryptoactives in the world, according to data from Coinmarketcap.
To give you an idea, between April and May of that year, the currency, driven by Musk's posts on X, formerly Twitter, grew by more than 1,000%
