DFINITY bridges Internet computing smart contracts with EVM networks. ♾️⛓️🔗

The DFINITY Foundation has announced a groundbreaking API that enables Internet Computer smart contracts to seamlessly interact with Ethereum virtual machine (EVM) networks. This development significantly improves cross-chain compatibility, allowing decentralized applications (dApps) to take advantage of the deep liquidity and user communities of EVM networks.

With this new API, dApps can now benefit from cross-chain liquidity, community integration, and simplified API key management. This integration also extends to Layer 2 solutions such as Optimism, Arbitrum and Base, with the flexibility for users to add other EVM networks as needed.

Currently, Internet Computer smart contracts are operational with Bitcoin and Ethereum in projects such as Bioniq, Bitfinity, and Omnity. The future looks bright with plans to integrate with the Solana blockchain as part of the Chain Fusion initiative, further improving interoperability.

Lomesh Dutta, Vice President of DFINITY Foundation, emphasized that this development marks an important step in enabling the Internet computing ecosystem to seamlessly interact with any EVM network. This strategic integration aligns with DFINITY's broader vision of positioning Internet Computer as a robust third-generation blockchain network that supports the future of decentralized computing.

Dominic Williams, president of DFINITY, has expressed his opinion on the need for high-quality blockchain infrastructure, often contrasting the Internet computer with what he describes as the "garbage" that comprises 95% of current blockchains.
