Vitalik Buterin tweeted that we need an open decentralized protocol to quickly transfer assets from one L2 to another and integrate them into the wallet's default deposit page. Our biggest user experience issue is that the L2-verse is not the same as a unified Ethereum. It's much better than a year ago, but it's not enough. Major changes in token transfers, ENS, and smart contract wallets are easy to implement on L1, but difficult on L2. The client is light, the underlying trust, and the proof system is also more secure/decentralized on L1, which is not enough on L2. Vitalik also said, "ENS is our most successful non-financial application, and I don't know why so many people are interested in it!"
