According to Bitcoincom, the Paraguayan government is urging lawmakers to pass a bill that would impose up to 10 years in prison on illegal Bitcoin miners in response to the massive theft of electricity that threatens the National Electricity Administration (ANDE). The bill allows Paraguayan police and prosecutors to confiscate and sell illegal mining equipment. More than 5,000 ASIC miners have been confiscated this year. Previously, Paraguay suspended a proposed ban on crypto mining and considered selling excess energy from hydroelectric power stations to miners.
