Caixin: Hong Kong becomes the first region outside of mainland China where all local residents can open E-CNY wallets

CoinVoice has recently learned that according to Caixin.com, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority has announced on May 17, 2024 that the pilot of digital RMB (e-CNY) in Hong Kong will be expanded to all Hong Kong citizens from now on. Users can register and activate with a Hong Kong mobile phone number. Not only can it be used in Hong Kong, but also cross-border payments can be made at merchants in mainland China that support e-CNY without real names. Digital RMB is currently being piloted in 26 regions in 17 provinces and cities in the mainland.
