An investor group is close to acquiring crypto media outlet CoinDesk for $125 million, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

The investment group is led by Matthew Roszak of Tally Capital, a private investment firm focused on cryptocurrencies and Web3 technology, and Peter Vessence of Capital6, a venture capital firm and family office, people familiar with the matter said.

As previously reported, in January this year, Kevin Worth, CEO of crypto media CoinDesk, a subsidiary of Digital Currency Group, said that Coindesk may seek to sell all or part of it when seeking funds for its future development. Worth said CoinDesk has received “many potential investment inquiries” over the past few months.

Coindesk was originally acquired by DCG for approximately $500,000 to $600,000 in 2016. The company has not disclosed its current valuation.
