The Worldcoin Foundation teamed up with TACEO, cryptography engineers, to introduce a novel biometric security breakthrough this week. It is the new Secure Multi-Party Computation system. It not only boosts privacy but also makes it possible to obliterate Worldcoin’s former iris code system while keeping the same security protection as with staked iris codes.

Verified World ID Users Gain Privacy Protection with Worldcoin’s SMPC System
The SMPC system is based on applied research and capitalizes on the most recent advances in secure multi-party computation for Machine Learning. It was created expressly for iris codes, identifiers unique to each individual in the Worldcoin ecosystem as a means of user identity validation.
In this new approach, iris codes get encrypted into multiple secret shares and are spread out among different parties. By performing computations on the encrypted share together, the desired results are obtained without revealing the actual data and comprising the privacy of the iris codes.
This research presents an open-sourced on Github and a novel solution to biometric template protection. The implementation of the SMPC system, as above, ensures that Worldcoin has an unprecedented privacy-protected deduplication system where each individual user security is safely checked.
In the process, the previous system used to check the user uniqueness coupled with the old iris code is already deleted. Furthermore, it enhanced user privacy and security. For users of Verified World ID, this is a step into a new digital world where individuals can prove their unique human identity without having to expose their actual identity. By using the Daugman iris code way, during sign-up, users are protected from common threats such as impersonation, deep fakes, and campaign influence.
World ID Introduces Next-Level Security with Zero-Knowledge Proofs
Given that iris codes are inherently unique, they are also highly susceptible to breach and misuse. Although safeguards such as hardware modules and encrypted networks offered some protection. In addition to this, the use of zero-knowledge proofs by World ID added an extra layer of security. With zero-knowledge proofs, individuals can use their World ID without unveiling their identifying information.
In conclusion, the Worldcoin Foundation’s new SMPC provided an unprecedented step in biometric security development. Moreover, Worldcoin with a perfect combination of iris code technology and cryptography aims to bring a brighter feature of private, identity verification. Hence, the digital world provides individual access more securely and sure with a World ID.
