The other day, the legendary notebook with the inscription Buy #Bitcoin went under the hammer for $1 million.
It became the most expensive lot in the history of the Scarce City site.
The piece of paper became a meme thanks to a televised broadcast from the US Congress seven years ago. Chris Langalis, during a speech by US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen at the House Financial Services Committee in July 2017, was caught on a broadcast with the caption “Buy Bitcoin.”
The frame became the basis for many memes related to digital assets, while the author of the caption became a niche hero. Langalis sold the lot for 16,#btc , that is, the equivalent of $1.02 million at today’s cryptocurrency rate. The buyer of the notebook was a digital asset enthusiast under the pseudonym Justin, also known as Squirrekkywrath.
