Sam Spratt's first art exhibition lights up Venice Biennale
An ancient Italian city celebrated digital artist Sam Spratt this week during the Venice Biennale, one of the world’s longest-running international cultural exhibitions, where Spratt debuted his first art exhibition, “Game of Monuments,” in a historic Venetian palazzo.
The exhibition features a series of ten digital artworks, displayed on light boxes that give them a glowing shadow effect, that detail apes and ape-human hybrids that exist in Spratt’s lore-driven fantasy world.
It is worth noting that the art exhibition invites viewers to participate in interactive games. Collectors who pre-order one of the 209 NFTs released before the exhibition can become "players" who observe digital paintings. These observations are then submitted to a community of existing collectors called the "Luci Committee". The committee votes on the opinions, and the top three determined by the vote will receive exclusive NFT rewards carefully selected by the artist.
Spratt, who studied oil painting at the Savannah College of Art and Design, describes his work as combining elements of Renaissance and Baroque aesthetics.
mmERCH launches new NFC-enabled clothing line of hoodies
About 1,000 fashionistas will soon be able to wear wallets. On April 16, web3 clothing company mmERCH launched a series of 960 hoodies that combine fashion style with smart technology. Each colorful hoodie is embedded with an NFC chip and can be used as a wearable digital wallet. The series includes 15 monochrome hoodies and 100 luxurious Italian cashmere styles. The rest are made of high-quality terry fabrics.
The claim window opens on April 22nd for those who minted the mmERCH pre-claim NFT, and owners can now connect their wallet to select a size and enter shipping details. Completing this claiming process will prompt the owner to “burn” their NFT in exchange for a one-of-a-kind physical hoodie in the mail.
Once claimed, holders will also have access to virtual mmERCH Noodle wearables in metaverse environments like OnCyber and Mona, and receive a receipt token featuring artwork from artist Toad Swiback.
LV launches phygital varsity jacket
Louis Vuitton has unveiled the latest product from its ongoing Via Treasure Trunk project: a Western-style phygital varsity jacket, available exclusively to 200 owners of the product’s digital twin.
But there’s a catch: only owners of a VIA Treasure Trunk (a soul-bound NFT that sold for $39,000 in June 2023) are eligible to purchase one of the phygital varsity jacket NFTs, and it’s unclear exactly how many Via treasure chests there are, but one source suggests there could be over 200.
The physical jacket was designed by musician and producer Pharrell Williams, who became the luxury brand’s creative director of menswear in February 2023, and the suede deerskin coat retails for €7,900, with collectors expected to receive their jacket between November and December 2024.
