A man was kidnapped and extorted 30 million for trading virtual currencies offline (from Coinsradar.net)

On the morning of the 6th, the 39-year-old male victim, a full-time cryptocurrency investor, met a "netizen" who was interested in buying the "electronic currency" he had on hand, so he made an appointment to meet.

After the two parties met, the "netizen" made an excuse to take him to an industrial building in Kowloon Bay for business. When the man arrived, he found that there were several men inside!

Afterwards, the men punched and kicked the victim, and attacked him with a hammer and an iron stool, causing multiple fractures to his hands and feet in order to prevent the victim from escaping. He was seriously injured. The gangsters also forced him to hand over his mobile phone, online banking and virtual currency online trading platform passwords.

In the early morning of the 7th, the man was blinded by the gangsters, took him into a private car, and took him to an unknown container yard for further detention. That night, the victim was taken to a tin house in Nam Hang Village, Tai Po by the gangsters. They continued to attack the victim and repeatedly gave instructions to demand ransom from friends and family members.

At first, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of HK$8 million, but later they checked the victim's online trading account and found that there were 20 million virtual currency records in his account, so they increased the ransom to 30 million.

The family members felt something was suspicious, so they reported the case on the 9th. The crime team took over the investigation on the 10th, identified the place where the victim might be imprisoned, and made arrangements. On the evening of the 12th, the victim escaped from the window while the kidnapper who was guarding him was unaware. Police officers deployed nearby immediately launched an arrest operation, arrested two nearby kidnappers and rescued the victim. The police later continued to arrest five suspects involved in the case. So far, 6 men and 1 woman have been arrested in the case, and 2 of them have been charged.
