James Howel Locked His 7,500 Bitcoins In Ledger Wallet & Don't Know Password 🔑 Interesting Story 👇
🔰Everything has a boundary. Even luck and #Unluckiness . 🤮 The guy you’re gonna meet now is one of the fewest people who have touched the boundary of unluckiness.💵.
🔰He wasn’t fired, didn’t lose his loved one, nor did miss an important interview 😞 What happened to him is practically irreversible unless he owns a time-machine before he dies.
🔰He is James Howells, a 35-year old IT engineer from Wales. Back in 2009, when #Bitcoin was almost worthless 🫣, he mined 7,500 of them and stored the access key in his hard-disk. In 2013, he threw it away while cleaning his office keeping the wrong one.
🔰By the time he realised it, the hard-disk has already reached Newport landfills in Wales. And without the cryptographic key that’s inside the disk, he’d never be able to access all his 7,500 bitcoins.
🔰As of today, the gone bitcoins value $370 million. The highest 7,500 bitcoins ever valued was $476 million.
🔰Back to the story. He hurried to the municipality and told them what happened. Howbeit, they refused search the site –
🔰 As digging the landfill, storing, and treating all the waste creates huge environmental impact, with no guarantee they’d find the lost hard-disk or find it in working condition.
🔰Days passed by till today, all with repeated futile requests by James to the council. He still believes the hard-disk would remain intact and experts would be able to recover the data.
🔰There were times when he has even made a deal to offer 25% of bitcoins to the city fund if they’re able to get his disk back. Yet, the authority’s decision had been the same.
🔰As it’s been eight years by now, the disk must have been decomposed, crumbled, or corroded and there are extremely low chances he’d be able to to get his bitcoins back.
🔰This infers that out of mineable 21 million bitcoins, 7,500 are inaccessible probably forever.
🔰If I were in his place, I’d never attempt to watch the price of bitcoin and not make stories of my what my net worth would’ve been if they weren’t have lost. I’ll put all crypto-things aside and continue with my lovely IT job. At least, I’ll have peace of mind. That’s way more valuable than anything in the universe.
