Brc20 Cheat Sheet

In the ever-evolving landscape of #blockchains technology, the BRC20 protocol has emerged as an experimental standard for creating and managing tokenized assets on the Bitcoin chain.

The BRC-20 experimental token standard enables the minting and transfer of fungible tokens on the Bitcoin network by utilizing ordinal inscriptions.

The Ordinals protocol is a sophisticated system designed to assign a unique serial number to every satoshi, the smallest unit of bitcoin, and integrate this information into bitcoin transactions along with ordinal data.

This utilizes JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) within the ordinal inscription to define and activate the smart contract functionality of the tokens. Consequently, enabling users to deploy, create, and transfer tokens on the Bitcoin network.

#BRC20 which originates from Bitcoin Request for Comment 20, was proposed in March 2023 by an undisclosed developer named Domo, and it draws inspiration from Ethereum's ERC-20 token standard.

But the burning questions are: what are its use cases, and will it be sustainable in the long run due to scalability and compatibility issues?

Only time will tell.
