Until a further review is conducted before his February sentencing, former Binance CEO Changpeng 'CZ' Zhao is mandated to stay in the U.S., as ordered by Judge Richard Jones of the U.S.
District Court for the Western District of Washington in Seattle.
The judge stayed a condition allowing Zhao to return to his UAE residence, citing flight risk due to wealth and the absence of a U.S.-UAE extradition treaty.
Zhao, having pleaded guilty to Bank Secrecy Act violations, has accepted a $50 million fine.
Recently, the U.S. Department of Justice settled a connected case with Binance, resulting in a $4.3 billion fine, marking one of the largest corporate settlements in U.S. history.
