Golden Finance reported that The Block quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that Coinbase sent emails to some customers stating that it had received a subpoena involving Bybit from the U.S. regulatory agency CFTC. "You are not required to take any action, but Coinbase may respond to the subpoena unless a motion to dismiss or other objection to the subpoena filed with the court is filed before November 30, 2023," Coinbase said in the email. This includes sending information about your Coinbase account to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission."

According to its enforcement manual, the CFTC has certain powers to conduct investigations, including through voluntary declarations and subpoenas. Coinbase said in a May article that U.S. law requires Coinbase to collect information, including in matters involving subpoenas.
