Chainlink functions run on L2, providing on-demand API access.

Chainlink Functions, a product of the decentralized oracle network Chainlink, has officially launched on Base, a layer-2 blockchain created by Coinbase and secured by the Ethereum architecture.

The integration gives smart contract developers on Base access to a low-trust computing infrastructure, allowing them to ingest data from APIs and run their own calculations in a serverless environment

Chainlink Functions is a serverless, self-service platform for developers that allows developers to connect their smart contracts to any API and perform computations with minimal trust. It serves as a decentralized computing environment useful for testing, simulating, and running custom offline logic for Web3 applications. In many aspects, Chainlink Functions acts as a low-trust, blockchain-connected version of existing serverless solutions such as AWS Lambda and GCP CloudFunctions.
