According to CoinDesk, MetaMask is testing a Mastercard payment card, which is billed as the first fully on-chain card. According to marketing materials reviewed by CoinDesk, the payment card will allow users to make daily purchases with cryptocurrency wherever card payments are accepted. MetaMask is the most popular cryptocurrency wallet on the Ethereum blockchain, with over 30 million monthly active users. Mastercard provides critical support within the traditional financial system through its global credit and debit card network. MetaMask’s payment card partnership with Mastercard will be the “first-ever truly decentralized Web3 payment solution.” Recently, Mastercard and its rival Visa have been in touch with the public blockchain developer community and self-hosted wallet providers. In October last year, CoinDesk reported that Mastercard had been working with hardware wallet companies Ledger and MetaMask. At the same time, Visa has been working with the USDC stablecoin and Solana blockchain to work on cross-border payments and solving problems such as paying Ethereum gas fees.
