What is global ID?
World ID is a secure, permissionless identity protocol that allows millions of people to prove their humanity online while preserving their privacy.
It may be helpful to think of World ID as a global digital passport for the AI era. It provides people with a privacy-preserving way to authenticate as humans online in a world where advances in technology have blurred the distinction between human- and AI-generated content.
How is the global ID issued?
A World ID can be created in any World ID compatible wallet, such as World App, the first wallet created for the Worldcoin project and developed by Tools for Humanity (TFH), a contributor to the project. To receive a fully verified world ID, a person must visit an orb in person to verify their uniqueness and humanity using their biometric data.
The orb quickly takes, processes, and, by default, deletes images of the iris on the device to create an iris code, which is a numerical representation of the texture of an iris. Unless there is explicit user consent, a message containing the iris code is the only stored result of this process.
