Coachella and OpenSea Launch VIP Pass Plus Oasis Lounge Gifts

OpenSea and Coachella are partnering this year to offer VIP passes to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April 2024, as well as special Oasis Lounge souvenirs.

The Coachella VIP Pass + Oasis Lounge package, announced Tuesday, is priced at $1,499 and offers a souvenir NFT that comes with an optional Coachella weekend VIP festival pass and access to the private Oasis Lounge Bar within the festival’s VIP area, with access to the lounge limited to the holder of the souvenir.

Passholders will also receive free food and drinks, an NFT from Grammy-winning artist Dave Van Patten, and additional surprises.

Coachella and OpenSea will release the second series, the Canvas Welcome Box Souvenirs, on March 25. The series will offer varying levels of usefulness, including unique merchandise, digital content, access to the Rose Garden VIP area, and more. Details on fees and tiers will be announced in mid-March.

In mid-April, the third and final release will introduce artist collaborations, bringing another layer of exclusive benefits to Coachella attendees, with details of the series to be announced in late March.

Powered by the Avalanche blockchain, this partnership demonstrates the reach of NFTs through tangible experiences and merchandise while broadening the appeal of NFTs beyond early adopters.

Parallel launches public beta

The NFT collectible card game Parallel has launched its first season: Toxic into public beta, bringing new rewards and playable cards to fans. Previously, Parallel was only available in beta, but now the free sci-fi game is open to the public.

In response to the new beta, cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase is offering up to $5 in in-game credits and two free sets of non-NFT trading cards to new players who visit the game through Coinbase’s Explore page or through social media posts on Coinbase’s second layer (L2) blockchain, Base.

Named GG’s 2023 Game of the Year, Parallel combines traditional trading card strategy with blockchain technology to create intense competition, offering players optional NFT rewards, with trading cards representing one of five classes or “factions” that have unique strengths and philosophical approaches to gameplay.

For example, the Earthling faction, as the lucky survivors of a major catastrophic event, utilizes superior defense strategies (they now manipulate nature to increase radiation on Earth), meanwhile, the Makori faction is known for being fast and aggressive, while the Katari faction utilizes cloning capabilities to protect its population, the Augencore represents a group of curious robots who discovered resources within the solar system, and the Shroud faction is made up of multi-generational survivors of the black hole encounter.

This year at ETH Denver, touch replaced scanning QR codes.

If you’re used to scanning QR codes at meetings (whether for food menus, sharing contact information or event programs), you may soon forget about touch — think technology like the IYK chip that enables near-instant transaction scanning.

Touch was all the rage at last week’s ETH Denver 2024, with IYK chips being embedded into the badges of the conference’s 18,500 attendees, according to web3 writer and personality, TPan of Web3 and the TPan Newsletter.

As he described it, the technology makes the network smoother, particularly through its collaboration with the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) and the Proof of Attendance Protocol (POAP), which creates personalized business cards.

NodeMonkes, Bitcoin-native PFP, is heating up

NodeMonkes, a group of pixelated characters that bills itself as “Bitcoin’s first collection of 10,000 profile pictures (PFPs),” has captured the attention of the web3 world with a recent sale of over 17 BTC ($1.08 million) and a current floor price of over $40,000.

Launched in December 2023, the characters are Bitcoin ordinals, meaning they are inscribed on a single satoshi (the lowest denomination of the Bitcoin currency), and the series’ pixelated aesthetic and distorted features reflect the web3 zeitgeist and connect with the imagination of crypto natives, especially those with an affinity for the Bitcoin blockchain.

The Dutch public auction initially made NodeMonkes a success, with the collection valued at approximately $500 million as of this writing, attracting notable collectors and cementing his status as a Bitcoin “cypherpunk.”
