On May 2, IBM is expected to "pause" hiring for "back-office" positions that may be automated by artificial intelligence (AI). IBM CEO Arvind Krishna explained in an interview with Bloomberg on May 1 that many "back-office" positions, such as human resources and accounting departments, may be automated by artificial intelligence first.
Krishna added that he foresees 30% of these positions being replaced by AI within five years. According to LinkedIn, IBM has 282,000 employees worldwide, and according to Bloomberg, IBM has about 26,000 non-client-facing employees, which means that about 7,800 jobs could be replaced by AI.
