CryptoPunk#6940sold for over $500,000

A large NFT sale is reminiscent of the 2021 bull run, with CryptoPunk#6940changing hands for a staggering 205 ETH (approximately $507,617 at the time of sale) on January 21, setting the highest sales record in the NFT space in the past month.

More broadly, the sale came at a time when web3 news outlets everywhere were reporting a 17.72% surge in sales across the NFT market, but even without considering overall market conditions, the sale was undoubtedly significant.

Punk #6940’s rise from a modest mint price of 0.280 ETH (~$128) in December 2017 to $500,000 today exemplifies the continued long-term interest in digital art collectibles.

The sale follows another recent notable transaction in November 2023, when CryptoPunk#7458sold for 600 ETH (about $1.14 million at the time).

As the NFT market continues to rise, collectors and investors are paying close attention.

Axie Infinity: Homeland released

Axie Infinity Players: If you’ve been feeling left out, your fortunes are about to change. Axie has just launched the Homeland Beta, promising to increase the number of daily active users (DAU) and enhance its game incentives through what the company calls a “reward renaissance” for active players.

The beta phase begins on January 24th, and the focus will shift from land staking rewards to increasing in-game revenue. Homeland will also introduce a variety of new ways for players to collect rewards, such as daily emissions, Moonfall, Moonbeam, and special missions.

Other key updates include a major graphical overhaul, a land licensing market, NFT Axie integration, texture quality upgrades and an enhanced AXS reward cycle with a significantly increased daily income cap for each land parcel, plus the Moonfall reward pool, giving players more Up to 45 daily rewards.

Nifty Island Game Launches Open Beta

A new social multiplayer game, Nifty Island, launched its public beta on January 17. The game combines user-generated content (UGC) with NFT incentives, inviting players to explore, build and customize their own islands for free, similar to the UGC model of popular worlds such as Roblox and Fortnite.

It’s also competitive, with special (and intense) “Capture the Flag” and “Team Deathmatch” modes, plus players can collect “Blooms” and unlock NFT rewards, and the game takes a multi-chain approach and works with over 120 NFT collections to give players the ultimate in avatar customization capabilities.

Currently available for Windows or Mac, Nifty Island also introduces a novel “Airdrop Game” mode designed to reward gamers with its native token.

LiveArt to Launch Chris Levine’s First NFT Collection, Featuring Banksy and More

Global web3 art platform LiveArt has partnered with British light artist Chris Levine to launch his first NFT series, “Icons,” which blends digital and physical works.

The collection consists of 500 NFTs, each of which comes with a signed fine art print from cultural giants like Banksy and Kate Moss, with a portion of the proceeds reportedly going to help the Trussell Trust fight hunger and poverty in the UK.

Levine, known for his transformative light art and holography (including his famous portrait of Queen Elizabeth II), has just ventured into web3, bringing a novel art experience to collectors.

The “Icons” series combines Levine’s groundbreaking work with LiveArt’s digital platform, with pre-sale limited to LiveArt Pass holders, and the official release is scheduled for January 31, and you can mint LiveArt Pass on OpenSea.

SEGA joins Finschia Foundation as governance member

SEGA has entered the web3 space with the Finschia Foundation and joined as a governance member through its Singapore subsidiary. This collaboration marks SEGA Singapore’s entry into the decision-making and network verification field within the Finschia ecosystem.

In addition to governance, SEGA will also develop web3 games using its iconic IP, marking a new chapter in immersive gaming experience. Together with industry giants such as SoftBank and LINE NEXT, SEGA's collaboration with Finschia promises to merge traditional gaming strengths with cutting-edge blockchain technology, inspiring people's expectations for the future development of the gaming world.

Immutable and Cool Cat Collaboration

Cool Cats has just entered the mobile gaming space with web3 gaming ecosystem Immutable, leveraging Polygon’s cutting-edge Immutable zkEVM.

The partnership features an exciting collaboration with SyncStudio and PlayEmber, which will soon launch its first live mobile game, “Cool Cats: Match Quest.”

The game, which is open to users worldwide, will integrate Immutable Passport to manage on-chain identities and logins, reducing friction and making it easier for players to begin their adventures in Cool Cats’ Cooltopia and win unique digital cosmetics.

Set on the fictional planet of Dolos, the collaboration promises to incorporate Honda’s groundbreaking innovations into the game, providing players with new modes of transportation and vehicle-related gameplay.
