According to CoinDesk, one of the hallmarks of the last cryptocurrency bull run was the high-priced sales of various non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Although the world has mostly turned to Meme coins, a CryptoPunk NFT hit a record high of $56.3 million on Thursday. The previous record was $23.7 million, set in February 2022.

Punk 1563 was purchased by 0x9cbb3d from 0xba1349 for 24,000 ETH (about $56.3 million). The NFT depicts a pixelated woman with black hair and blue eyes. As recently as September this year, it sold for less than 30 ETH.

NFT sales have had a history of anomalies, including another CryptoPunk in 2021 that technically sold for $532 million, but blockchain data showed the buyer and seller were the same person. NFTs have also been accused of being used for money laundering. Punk 1563's motives are unclear.
