According to PANews, the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) fined Facebook's parent company Meta Platforms (META.US) 91 million euros (about 102 million US dollars) for storing some user passwords in plain text in its internal systems.

The investigation began in April 2019 when Meta notified the DPC that it was not protecting the passwords of some social media users.

The fine is in addition to a 1.2 billion euro ($1.3 billion) fine imposed by the European Commission last year on Meta for transferring user data to the United States.
