According to Odaily Planet Daily, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin urged an increase in the "blob number" during the Dencun upgrade to expand the network and improve Layer2 protocol capacity.

Vitalik revealed in a discussion after the latest developer conference call that the current blob space utilization rate is close to 75%, and the number of blobs needs to be increased through the EIP-7623 proposal.

Blob space, introduced by EIP-4844, is a dedicated data storage area designed to improve network scalability. Vitalik proposes increasing the number of blobs per block from 3 to 4, up to 8.

The EIP-7623 proposal proposes increasing the calldata cost of Ethereum transactions and reducing the maximum block size from 2.7MB to about 1MB to make room for increasing the block gas limit or the number of blobs.

Vitalik expressed concern that some L2 protocols were hesitant to use blobs due to concerns about market congestion, emphasizing that the Layer2 network is an important part of Ethereum's expansion, but it must be decentralized.
