According to Cointelegraph, the Kosovo Financial Intelligence Unit will participate in the European Commission’s Octopus Project CYBERKOP action from September 24 to 26 to hold a workshop on cryptocurrencies and their challenges.

The workshop will bring together financial intelligence experts, law enforcement officers, prosecutors and the Central Bank of Kosovo, with the aim of enhancing local skills and knowledge on digital currencies and virtual asset service providers (VASPs).

The workshop will also provide better tools for tracing and seizing illegal digital currency transactions and deepen the understanding of the existing legal framework and licensing aspects.

The Kosovo Financial Intelligence Unit is one of the main financial arms of the Government and is responsible for electronic communications with financial institutions and government agencies.

The European Commission’s guidelines will help Kosovo’s financial leaders equip themselves with the skills to seize virtual assets and handle criminal cases involving cryptocurrencies.

Although Kosovo’s state legitimacy remains controversial, it has strong support from the European Union and the United States. The EU implemented the Regulation on Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) in June 2023, and member states are required to be ready to comply with it by 2026.
