According to TechFlow, as early as April, rumors that ChatGPT developer OpenAI was working with former Apple design director Jony Ive to develop hardware devices were confirmed.

The New York Times reported that Ive and OpenAI CEO Altman had dinner last year at the introduction of Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky to discuss how generative artificial intelligence can create new computing devices.

The device can summarize and prioritize information, identify and name objects, book travel and other complex requests. Similar attempts have been made before, such as the Rabbit R1 and the Humane AiPin, but they were unsuccessful due to battery life and overheating issues.

Ive and Altman's startup has brought in key talent, including former Apple design chiefs Tang Tan and Evans Hankey. Ive's company Love From is leading the design of the product.

In February of this year, Ive and his team spent $60 million to purchase a 32,000-square-foot building in San Francisco called the LittleFox Theater.

Emerson Collective, founded by Ive and Laurene Powell Jobs, has invested and plans to raise up to $1 billion more by the end of the year. The final form of the product and the timing of its release are still being determined.
