Maryland police have warned of a growing phishing scam targeting Gmail users, ChainCatcher reports. Scammers are sending Google Maps photos with the victim's address, extorting Bitcoin and threatening to publish false and unfavorable information.

The police explained that scammers usually use blackmail threats, claiming to have damaging information about the victim and threatening to make it public if Bitcoin is not paid. Scammers usually offer two options: pay the ransom or face the risk of information being leaked.

Similar scams have also occurred in many places, including California and Nevada.
