According to Wu, the United States, Japan and South Korea held a trilateral diplomatic working group meeting in Seoul to counter North Korean cyber threats. The meeting was chaired by Lee Jun-il, director of the Korean Peninsula Policy Bureau, Seth Bailey, deputy special representative for North Korea policy, and Kumagai Naoki, ambassador for cyber policy of Japan.

Nearly 20 government agencies from the three countries participated in the meeting, which focused on preventing North Korean cryptocurrency theft, disrupting IT worker networks, working with partners to counter North Korean cyber threats, and developing trilateral capacity-building assistance.

Discussions included sanctions, cooperation, private sector engagement and disrupting networks that support North Korea’s illicit weapons programs.
