Ethereum Layer-2 blockchain Movement aims to be the “first fast” Ethereum scaling solution, with its co-founder claiming that the network can process nearly twice as many transactions per second as its fastest competitor at peak, Cointelegraph reported.
Movement’s testnet launched on July 30 with a peak TPS of over 12,000, and could theoretically reach 30,000 to 50,000, Movement Labs co-founder Rushi Manche said during Korea Blockchain Week.
Currently, the Ethereum Layer 2 with the highest TPS is Polygon, which processes 190 transactions per second, far below its advertised peak of 7,000 TPS. Solana is the blockchain with the highest actual TPS, processing 1,053 transactions per second, which is only 1.6% of its theoretical maximum speed.
Manche attributes Movement’s speed to its programming language, Move, which can process multiple transactions simultaneously, rather than the typical one-by-one processing.
Manche said that the testnet has 44 decentralized applications (DApps) that have increased TPS, of which Mini Apps based on Telegram contribute one-tenth of the total TPS.
A public launch date for the Movement mainnet has not yet been set, but Manche said it’s “coming soon.”
