According to Cointelegraph, a panel of the Brazilian Supreme Court upheld the ruling to suspend the operation of social media platform X in the country. On September 2, five Supreme Court judges unanimously supported the August 30 ruling by Judge Alexandre de Morais to suspend X's operations in Brazil. Morais' decision stemmed from X's owner Elon Musk's refusal to appoint legal representatives for the company's operations in Brazil.

Months before the Moraes ruling, Musk blasted the Supreme Court justice on X, calling him "evil" and a "dictator" and accusing him of "illegal political censorship" on social media platforms. It's unclear how Musk will respond to the ruling.

Moraes had been investigating X for allowing and promoting false information related to former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. Since Musk took over the company (then Twitter) in October 2022, many companies have withdrawn their ads after reports of pro-Nazi content appearing next to their ads.

According to Morais' ruling, X will continue to be suspended in Brazil until the company pays an unpaid fine of more than $3 million as of August 30. Brazilian residents and companies that use virtual private networks (VPNs) to access the site may also face fines of up to 50,000 reais (about $8,900).
