According to Cointelegraph, in response to the growing threat of cryptocurrency hackers, an elite "SEAL" team of ethical hackers was established to strengthen defenses and prevent more serious vulnerabilities in 2023. The team is led by white hat hacker and Paradigm researcher Samczsun and has received more than 900 hacker-related tickets since its establishment in August 2023.

Samczsun announced at the Web3 Summit in Berlin that the initiative will create a confrontational environment for white hat hackers and emerging protocols to improve the protocol's ability to resist attacks. The first event, Battle.net, will be held at the DeFi Security Summit at Devcon from November 7 to 9.

The SEAL team also released the White Hat Safe Harbor Agreement, which provides financial assistance to white hat hackers facing legal action. Samczsun explained that the agreement provides legal support through a partnership with the Security Researcher Legal Defense Fund.

Cryptocurrency hacking incidents in 2024 may exceed those in 2023. As of February 29, hackers have caused more than $200 million in losses, an increase of more than 15% over the same period in 2023. Mar Guimenez-Aguilar, chief security architect at Halborn Cybersecurity, said that if the current attack trend continues, the total number of attacks in 2024 may slightly exceed that in 2023.

According to a report by Immunefi, nearly 80% of cryptocurrencies never recover in value after an attack, and this devaluation often causes more damage than the attack itself.
