According to Cointelegraph, Martin Shkreli has been ordered to hand over all digital copies of Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, a one-to-one physical album by Wu-Tang Clan that is now owned by PleasrDAO.
PleasrDAO purchased the album for $4.75 million in 2021 from the Department of Justice, which seized it following Shkreli’s 2018 conviction for securities fraud. The DAO sold partial ownership through NFTs but alleged Shkreli retained a digital copy and filed a lawsuit against him in June.
On August 26, a federal judge in New York ordered Shkreli to turn over all copies by August 30 and sign a statement confirming that he no longer has any copies. Shkreli also must submit a list of copies of the album, who he shared them with, and any financial benefit he derived from them by September 30.
PleasrDAO filed a request for a preliminary injunction against Shkreli on Aug. 19, alleging that he had caused “substantial financial and irreparable harm” by playing the album during multiple live streams.
Edward Paltzik, Shkreli’s attorney, said the order was merely a preliminary measure by the court to maintain the status quo before any discovery proceedings take place and would have no impact on the ultimate outcome of the case.
PleasrDAO shared news of the order on X and posted a meme suggesting it was manipulating Shkreli.
