According to Cointelegraph, EigenDA, EigenLayer’s data availability protocol, now supports ERC-20 token re-staking to enhance the security of the Layer-2 expansion network. Previously, only ETH and EigenLayer’s native EIGEN tokens were supported.

EigenDA is a data availability layer running on EigenLayer, designed to reduce the cost of on-chain data storage and access for Ethereum Layer-2 scaling solutions. Its goal is to provide reliable, scalable and secure data availability.

Re-staking involves using staked tokens to simultaneously secure other protocols. EigenLayer’s current total locked value (TVL) is close to $12.75 billion.

EigenDA is the first and largest Active Validation Service (AVS) on EigenLayer. It is secured by over 3.6 million re-staked ETH and 71.5 million EIGEN tokens, with over 128,000 participants.

EigenDA’s native token re-staking allows Layer-2 to create custom consensus mechanisms for secure storage and access of data, and expands the types of tokens that can earn yield through re-staking.
