According to Cointelegraph, Mike Carson, founder of Spaces Protocol, said that decentralized domain names should be implemented on the Bitcoin network to replace the current domain name system that relies on centralized third parties. On July 11, the Squarespace DNS registry was attacked, affecting more than 100 crypto projects and exposing security vulnerabilities in the DeFi field. Carson believes that this highlights the need for decentralized domain names and points out that Bitcoin is the most secure and decentralized blockchain. Carson emphasized that domain names should be managed on the blockchain as digital assets rather than relying on centralized third parties. He also mentioned government censorship and social media account blocking incidents as further proof of the importance of decentralized domain names. Spaces Protocol is built on Bitcoin and aims to achieve decentralized management of billions of names while taking up only a small amount of Bitcoin block space. Carson believes that decentralized naming can bring the next billion users to Bitcoin.
