At a hearing on August 19 at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, a judge ordered the Peraire-Bueno brothers to stand trial on October 14, 2025, on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit money laundering, PANews reported.

Justice Department officials allege the brothers were involved in stealing $25 million in cryptocurrency by exploiting a vulnerability in the MEV robot. U.S. authorities arrested the Peraire-Bueno brothers in May, and they are now each free on $250,000 bail and subject to certain travel restrictions.

The brothers resisted requests to return the stolen funds and used shell companies and foreign cryptocurrency exchanges to hide the assets, moving them into multiple wallets, according to U.S. authorities. If convicted, they could face up to 20 years in prison on each count.
