According to PANews, American investigative journalist Dave Troy said on the X platform that the FBI responded to his request for information about the identity of Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto. The FBI told him that Satoshi Nakamoto may be a "third-party individual."

In its response, the FBI said it could not confirm or deny the existence of any records related to Satoshi Nakamoto, a phrase typically used in response to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) inquiries concerning non-U.S. citizens. Nakamoto’s identity has not been revealed but is believed to be a pseudonym, consortium of individuals or a government entity.

Troy plans to dispute the FBI’s response and says his FOIA request is not intended to confirm Satoshi’s identity, but rather to determine what information the FBI may have on the subject.
