German law enforcement has revealed that an “emergency sale” of nearly 50,000 bitcoins has concluded, with sales revenue reaching $2.88 billion, compared to a previous value of about $2.1 billion when it was seized, Foresight News reported.
German law enforcement said the proceeds did not represent additional revenue for the Free State of Saxony and would be seized until the criminal proceedings were finally concluded.
The sale, which totaled 49,858 bitcoins, took place between June 19 and July 12 and was coordinated by the Saxony State Police, the Dresden Public Prosecutor’s Office and Bankhaus Scheich.
