According to BlockBeats, on July 4th, it was reported that hackers had gained access to the database of the Authy Android app, developed by Twilio. The security alert post released by Twilio on July 1st revealed that the hackers could identify data associated with the accounts, including phone numbers.
The post clarified that the accounts themselves were not damaged, meaning that the attackers could not obtain authentication credentials. However, the leaked phone numbers could potentially be used for phishing and SMS phishing attacks in the future. As a result, Twilio encouraged Authy users to remain vigilant and be highly alert to received text messages.
Users of centralized trading platforms often rely on Authy for two-factor authentication (2FA). It generates a code on the user's device, which the trading platform may require before executing withdrawals, transfers, or other sensitive tasks.
Authy is sometimes compared to Google's Authenticator app, which has similar functionality.
