According to BlockBeats, on March 27, the Celo Foundation announced that Tether Operations Limited (Tether) has deployed its native USDT token on the Celo mainnet. As a mobile-first and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible blockchain network, Celo is quickly becoming the preferred platform for stablecoin and real-world asset (RWA) use cases. This integration not only accelerates stablecoin adoption but also simplifies the on-chain payment experience, promoting the application and use of cryptocurrencies in the real world.
The introduction of USDT into Celo's robust ecosystem has established partnerships with over 1,000 partners in 150 countries, including Opera MiniPay's ultra-light stablecoin wallet in countries such as Kenya and Ghana. The wallet has recently surpassed 2 million users in Africa. Celo's core contributor, cLabs, also outlined a proposal to use USDT as the official gas fee currency in a community forum post, further simplifying the transaction process.
In addition, the following ecosystem partners have committed to utilizing native USDT on Celo after launch: Ammer Pay, Bitmama, EthicHub, Fonbnk, HaloFi, Huma Finance, impactMarket, Jia, Jumptask, Kotani Pay, Mento, PayChant, Quipu, Ramp Network, Toucan, Untangled Finance, Valora, and Yellow Card.
