New research from cybersecurity reporting agency 404 Media has uncovered a new tool called OnlyFakes that can easily generate fake IDs capable of bypassing KYC provider checks, CryptoPotato reports. These fake documents can be generated with or without a background, suggesting that it could be a photo taken freshly by the user during the authentication process. It is claimed that hundreds of fake documents can be generated at a time using Excel batch processing. OnlyFakes claims to be against illegal activities, and according to the site, its services can only be used as movie props and the like, with the platform expressly prohibited from being used to pass KYC checks. However, shortly after the article exposing the site was published, the site's founder, who goes by the pseudonym John Wick, "reminded" the community of the rule. However, feedback posted on the associated Telegram group suggests that the platform’s owners are well aware of its purpose. John Wick also said on Telegram that he was willing to buy scans of Real IDs from users for $100 each to improve the platform, prioritizing US and EU IDs.
