According to Cointelegraph, the Public Service Commission of Kentucky has rejected a proposed contract between Ebon International and Kentucky Power Company that would have provided a discounted electricity rate for a crypto mining facility in Louisa. The $50-million investment plan involved Ebon running a 100-megawatt mining operation until 2024, before increasing the load to 250 MW. Environmental groups Earthjustice and Greenpeace praised the decision, arguing that incentivizing crypto mining firms would burden taxpayers and contribute to climate change. Kentucky is a major Bitcoin mining hub in the United States, along with Texas, Georgia, and New York, where environmental organizations have pushed for restrictions and bans on crypto mining.
