According to Yonhap: South Korean tech company Naver Corp has introduced CLOVA X, a generative AI chatbot aimed at Korean-language users, as a response to OpenAI's ChatGPT. Naver's upgraded hyperscale artificial intelligence model, HyperCLOVA X, powers the new chatbot and various other AI services. CLOVA X, which is similar to ChatGPT, leverages Naver's expertise in Korean language and culture and can have conversations, summarize text, and generate stories like its English-language counterparts from Google, OpenAI, Microsoft, and Anthropic. Naver also announced CUE, a generative AI search service powered by HyperCLOVA X. CLOVA X beta testing began on Aug. 24, and the CUE search tool is set to launch in September. Naver has invested $754 million in AI over five years and is opening a large new data center with 600,000 servers to hyperscale its AI efforts. The company plans to develop localized AI applications for countries with political sensitivities in the Middle East and target non-English speaking countries and regions such as Japan and Southeast Asia.
