Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has donated 50 ETH (worth around $170,000) to support the legal defense fund for Tornado Cash developers Roman Sturm and Alexey Pertsev.
The donation came as part of an initiative led by the “Juicebox Free Pertsev and Storm” project.
Roman Storm expressed his gratitude to Buterin, describing the donation as a sign of his support and role model.
The donation represents about 25% of the funds available to support the cause via JusticeDAO.
This is not the first time Buterin has been involved in similar legal efforts.
In recent years, he has contributed large sums to support causes such as defending the founder of WikiLeaks and previously supporting the same developers with varying amounts.
It is noteworthy that the developers of the Tornado Cash platform face ongoing legal challenges after the protocol was accused of being exploited for illegal activities, including money laundering.
The charges led to US sanctions and the arrest of the platform's co-founder in the Netherlands, as well as ongoing trials in the US for both founders.
