The European regulation on markets in crypto-assets (MiCA), which is scheduled to be fully implemented by December 30, 2024, requires that stablecoins offered on centralized exchanges be issued by entities with an electronic money license. Since Tether, the issuer of USDT, has not yet obtained this license, several exchange platforms in Europe have started to remove USDT from their offers to comply with the regulation.
For example, Coinbase has announced that it will remove USDT for its European customers starting December 13, 2024.
However, other platforms, such as Binance, Crypto.com and Kraken, continue to offer USDT to their European users, at least until the December 30 deadline.
