Recently, the Hong Kong government announced the event calendar for the first half of next year. Hong Kong's Deputy Financial Secretary, Huang Weilun, stated at a press conference that there will be at least 93 major events in the first half of next year, of which 14 will span this year, expected to attract 840,000 visitors, an increase of over 50% year-on-year, and is expected to bring in HKD 3.3 billion in consumption and HKD 1.8 billion in economic added value, representing an increase of 40% and 30% year-on-year, respectively.
These at least 93 events occurring in the first half of 2025 can be simply categorized into five categories. The largest number is cultural, artistic, and creative projects, with 30; followed by conferences and exhibitions, with 26; sports events with 15; and festivals, celebrations, performances, and carnivals with 12; financial, economic, and innovation-related events with 10.
Huang Weilun introduced that, like this year, some events are still in the planning stage, but it is necessary to respect the individual organizers' market strategies and disclosure timing. Based on experience, there should be more than 93 events held in the first half of 2025. The Hong Kong Bureau of Culture, Sports and Tourism will continue to update the event calendar.
The new event calendar features many focal projects. In the financial, economic, and innovation sectors, the 'Milken Institute Global Investors' Symposium' will be held in Hong Kong this year and will reconvene in March next year to discuss how to tackle challenges faced by the global financial community.
Another flagship project, the 'Asia Financial Forum', will continue to be held in January next year, allowing thousands of industry elites, business leaders, and government officials from various regions to exchange views on different economic and financial topics.
The 'Hong Kong International Innovation and Technology Expo', a major annual innovation and technology event in Asia, will also be held in April next year. Another event, the '2025 Hong Kong Web3 Carnival', will also take place in April next year.
In terms of conferences and exhibitions, highlighted projects include: the large-scale event - 'Consensus Hong Kong Conference 2025' which will be held for the first time in Hong Kong next February, is one of the largest and most influential conferences in the field of the third generation of the Internet, blockchain, and digital assets, expected to attract over 8000 participants, including 6000 from around the world.
According to the latest estimates, Huang Weilun stated that there should be more than 240 events throughout 2024, attracting about 2 million tourists. This is an increase of over 17% compared to the previous estimate of 1.7 million tourists. These tourists will bring about HKD 7.5 billion in consumption and HKD 4.5 billion in economic added value, further surpassing the earlier estimates of HKD 7.2 billion in consumption and about HKD 4.3 billion in economic added value.
