Ah, cryptocurrencies. If I had to compare them to anything, it would be that ex who leaves you with a confusing message and leaves you there trying to figure out what you did wrong. And yet, every time you see her, your heart beats faster, and even though you know it’s going to end badly, you can’t help but answer her call. But, like your ex, cryptoassets hurt you… and yet you can’t help but run after her.

1. The Brilliant Beginning: When Bitcoin Makes Your Heart Skip

It was all fun and games in the beginning. When Bitcoin came into your world, it was like meeting the girl of your dreams. The shiny graphics, the rising value, the adrenaline coursing through your veins. You thought you had found your soulmate. It was all so perfect, you couldn’t wait to invest, convinced that you would become rich and that your relationship with crypto would last forever.

But as is often the case with relationships, it didn’t go that way. Your ex (Bitcoin, of course) started acting unpredictably. One day you were high, the next day you were low. A rollercoaster that made you realize that true love with her would be, as they say, “highly volatile.”

2. The Fear of Losing and Our Toxic Cycle

And then comes the moment when she leaves you. But, like an ex, you never stop thinking about her. Every time you hear about a new price increase, that spark goes off. There she is again, with her smile (or rather, with her bright green graph) telling you “Hey, I’m back, make another investment, there will be a new increase!”. But you know it, just like when she told you she would change, that she would come back to you, that this time it would be different. And yet, every time you fall into the trap. The pain is the same as always: you do everything she asks of you, but in the end she leaves you again with an empty wallet and a broken heart.

3. The Game of Hope: Crypto Whispers to You… “Don’t Worry, I’ll Be Back”

Yet, despite everything, you still believe it. That crypto tells you that “it’s just a correction, it will go up soon”. And you fall for it, thinking that this time it will be different. You find yourself saying to yourself “It’s not the end, it’s just another dip”. It’s like that time your ex promised you that she would change and be different. But who are you kidding? Yourself, of course.

And so the cycle begins again: buy, hope, suffer, repeat. Every little climb makes you think that maybe, just maybe, this time you might finally be in control. And then, in the blink of an eye, you find yourself back in the same situation: in debt and full of doubt.

4. Suffering and Addiction: Why Can't You Stop Investing?

The truth? You’re addicted to it (or him, in the case of Ethereum, or Dogecoin, or whatever crypto makes your heart skip a beat). Every time we see a tweet from Elon Musk or a bombshell about an emerging currency, hope explodes like a spark in our hearts, and the cycle starts again. You can’t help but think about it, even though you know it’s going to hurt. Every piece of news is like a text from your ex saying, “Hey, I was just thinking about you, wanna hang out?” And you reply, even though you know it’s going to be the same.

5. The Lesson (Or Non-Lesson) You Learn

After a while, you realize that maybe crypto isn’t that different from the former. You call it an “investment,” but ultimately, you’re just trying to convince yourself that it will be different this time. The pain is real, the empty wallet speaks for itself. But despite everything, you continue to believe that the next investment can finally give you the peace of mind you seek. And then, another downturn… another failure.

But despite the breakups and disappointments, you can never stop hoping that everything will work out, because, deep down, a part of you knows that “maybe, one day, she will change.” Or maybe not….
