SEC: results 2023

The SEC is beginning to take stock of the financial results of 2023. By the end of December, there is still time, it may still change, but the trends are clear.

In total, more than $5 bln was received in the form of fines and returned to deceived investors. It is difficult to say how much this pays off for the SEC’s ongoing activities, but at least it generates some income.

We are used to the fact that the SEC enthusiastically sends out invoices to pay fines. However, the main earnings of the SEC is not connected with cryptocurrency. Brokers from Wall Street and violating auditors pay the most.

As for the crypto business, this year was not the best for the SEC. The court case lost to Coinbase, the trial with Ripple ended in a draw, more like a defeat. It is not even a matter of specific judicial defeats, but the fact that precedents have been created on fundamental issues of crypto business. And it’s painful enough for the commission.

Perhaps the SEC’s last hopes remain a trial against Binance and an appeal against the Ripple judgment. If they are lost, the dreams of total control of the crypto business can be forsaken. At least for the immediate future.
