The DePIN project Spacecoin has launched the first satellite into Earth orbit for a space blockchain network. Before the full launch of the mainnet, the company plans to deploy a "constellation" of seven to ten spacecraft in 2025.

The first device was sent to space aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket on December 21. The blockchain node consists of two small devices roughly the size of a laptop hard drive and a data module.

"You can think of this as a reliable hardware platform that is truly protected from leaks. No one can interfere with the satellite's software, not even us," project representatives explained.

Spacecoin is positioned as an extraterrestrial backup layer of blockchains and a marketplace for "celestial services." In the initial stages, the main goal is to create a space data center that provides an "unreachable level of security on Earth."
