Fake Satoshi Craig Wright received a prison sentence, hackers from the DPRK stole twice as much crypto in 2024 as the year before, and BIS developed a hybrid model of CBDC architecture.
Bitcoin #BTC☀ started Friday with a sideways movement. As of 06:24 (Moscow time), the cryptocurrency is trading at $97,707 (1 token in rubles is ₽10,090,299). Bitcoin's 24-hour minimum is $95,587, and its maximum is $102,748.
The second-largest cryptocurrency by capitalization, Ethereum, also started the day with a sideways movement. As of the time of writing, the coin is trading at $3,442 (1 token in rubles is ₽355,266).
In the top 10 most capitalized cryptocurrencies, the best result for the day is XRP (+0.14%). All coins except the USDC stablecoin have been losing value over the week. Dogecoin has seen the biggest losses (-20.11%). The coin also showed its worst result in a day (-9.88%).
An Australian computer scientist has been found in contempt of court in a £900 billion intellectual property lawsuit. The trial began after Wright claimed ownership of Bitcoin and its documentation. In March, a British court ruled that Wright was not the creator of Bitcoin, which was previously confirmed by the testimony of key participants in the development, including Adam Back. Wright said he intends to appeal the verdict.
In 2024, hackers linked to the DPRK carried out 47 attacks, accounting for 61% of all recorded cryptocurrency thefts for the year. In 2023, they stole $660 million. Chainalysis noted that the number of large attacks from $50 million to $100 million and above has increased significantly, indicating that the attackers are becoming more effective. Since July 2024, hacker activity has decreased, possibly due to the strengthening of ties between the DPRK and Russia, but experts do not rule out a surge during the holiday period.
